This is an example of a marketing failure, although it was important to include regardless.

In December of 2013, I left my previous venture and went off to work remotely and travel the world.

Initially I launched two separate properties when I did this.

At jake-jorgovan.com I kept my personal blog. while at Oniron.co I showcased my marketing and design work.

After keeping these two sites separate for several months, I eventually realized this was pointless. 

My personal blog was pulling in thousands of visitors a month, while my Oniron page was pulling in only hundreds.

I didn’t have the energy to pour marketing into my personal blog and my consulting site, so eventually I decided to merge the two.

I dropped the entire Oniron brand and instead created a consulting tab on my website.

Within the first week of making this change, I received 7 inbound leads for consulting projects.

Lesson learned: You should only have one home base (website) for your brand and all traffic should flow through that home base.

  • Even with the brand confusion and lack of website traffic, I closed over $10,000 of business through this brand
