Digital Marketing Agencies: 49 Firms Compared by How They Work

Published Updated 29 min read
Hiring a digital marketing agency means handing part of your growth to people outside the company. You might want one partner to plan and run search, paid media, social, content and the website together. Or you might already know which channel matters most and need a team that is very good at it. Either way, the agency should be able to show you work like yours.
This guide compares 49 digital marketing agencies. It groups them by the work they lead with, shows the client work and terms each one publishes, and ends with what to settle before you sign.
DisclosureinBeat and Web Tonic are part of Fieldtrip, a group of marketing agencies in which Jake Jorgovan is a partner. Both are among the 49 firms in this list.
Full-service agency or specialists?
A full-service or integrated agency gives you one team and one point of contact for strategy and execution across channels. Your ads, search, content, email and conversion work can be planned to support each other, and you spend less time coordinating vendors. That suits a company without a full in-house marketing team, or one that wants a single partner accountable for the plan.
A specialist goes deep on one area, such as paid search, SEO or social. It fits when your strategy is settled, your team can manage several partners, and one channel needs more than a generalist can give it.
If you have not yet proved which channels work, I would start with a small test. In a 2021 episode on how to think about marketing, I said that "most companies that are successful have one or two marketing channels that work really, really well for them." The method is to test two or three channels at a time, look for initial results or encouraging signs after about three months, and build a repeatable system around what works while testing the next channel.
That changes what you ask an agency for. A full-service firm is worth paying for if it can test two or three channels at once and then put your budget behind what works. If it wants to run every channel from month one, ask which ones it expects to work and what early results you should see within a quarter.
Compare digital marketing agencies
Each agency below offers paid media plus at least two other disciplines, such as SEO, social, content, email, web or creative, and publishes named client work on the pages read. This is a shortlist without a ranking, and it does not cover the market. The groups show what each firm leads with; most offer more than their group suggests. For the paid search side alone, see PPC and Google Ads agencies.

What these agencies publish about fees and contracts
Most agencies on this list do not publish a numerical price on the pages read on October 7, 2026. Published terms still show differences in fee basis, commitments and ownership:
- A retainer level. NoGood publishes its average monthly retainer and offers no standard packages.
- A starting price. WebFX publishes a starting monthly price for SEO services.
- Price tiers. Cyrusson publishes monthly price tiers and a setup fee for ad management.
- A budget floor. Ignite Visibility's inquiry form refers smaller monthly budgets to a partner, and Black Propeller works with brands above a stated monthly media spend.
- Fee basis. Black Propeller charges a fixed monthly retainer tiered by ad spend and says it prefers not to charge a percentage of spend. Netpeak lists five models, including performance-based pricing and a percentage of ad spend; BS LLC offers retainer, milestone-based or hourly work.
- Contract length. WebiMax, Disruptive Advertising, BrandLume and Intero Digital say they do not require long-term or yearly contracts, while Cyrusson requires a six- or twelve-month agreement. Funnel Boost Media says it does not require them: most clients start on a three- to six-month plan, then work month to month. Black Propeller is open to discussing month-to-month terms.
- A guarantee. Disruptive offers qualifying brands a money-back growth guarantee; ask how it defines a qualifying brand and measurable growth.
- Exclusivity. Dragonfly's contract says it will not work for your direct competitors during the engagement.
- Ownership. Black Propeller says clients own their ad accounts and keep the creative it produces.
Compare proposals on the same basis: what the fee covers, whether media spend is billed separately, whether the fee is fixed or a share of ad spend, the minimum term and notice period, setup fees, and who owns the ad accounts, analytics and creative if you leave.
How to choose a digital marketing agency
Write down what the agency must deliver
Name the outcome you are paying for: qualified pipeline, ecommerce revenue, app installs, store visits. Then decide which one or two channels you expect to carry it. If you are not sure, ask each agency to propose which channels to test first and what result after about three months would justify scaling them.
Match the published work to your brief
Ask for cases from companies like yours, in your sales model and at your budget. A website redesign, a local SEO result and an enterprise paid media program show different skills. Testimonials on an agency's site are the ones it chose to publish; reference calls let you ask what went wrong.
Find out who will do the work
Ask who leads your account, who runs each channel and which parts are subcontracted. A full-service agency is only an advantage if the people running search, paid media and content plan together.
Agree on measurement and access before you start
Agree how results will be reported, which numbers count, and how often you will meet. Keep ad accounts, analytics and tracking in your company's name so you can see the data and keep it if you change agency.
Start with a defined first phase
A first phase of about a quarter, with a clear test plan, lets you judge the agency's process and early results before you commit to a long retainer. If an agency pushes for a long contract before showing fit, treat it as a warning sign.
Questions for the first call:
- Which one or two channels would you test first for us, and what result after three months would justify scaling them?
- Can you show work for a company like ours, and can we speak to that client?
- Who will run our account day to day, and which work is done by subcontractors?
- What is the fee basis, what does it include, and is media spend billed separately?
- What is the minimum term and the notice period, and is there a setup fee?
- Who owns the ad accounts, analytics, creative and website if we part ways?
- How will you report results, and which numbers will you be accountable for?

How this list was made
Each agency's homepage, service pages, client, case or testimonial pages, and any pricing or FAQ page its navigation links were read on October 7, 2026. An agency is listed where those pages show paid media plus at least two other disciplines, and named client work. Client names, results and terms are the agencies' own claims.
