When things aren't going your way

When things aren't going your way, it can really suck.

When clients drop off…
When projects fall through…
When you hit points where you just don't know how you are going to pay the bills…

These moments happen, there is no other way around it.

Your life and your business aren't always going to be smooth sailing.
You will hit rough spots.
It's just part of life.

When you hit these rough spots, it's important to remember one thing.

You can't change what happens to you, you can only change how you react.

You can't change the fact that this was a down month for your business.
But you can change how you respond.

You don't have to stress about it, you don't have to panic.

Stress and panic are emotional responses to the situation.
The situation is what it is, you get to choose how you respond.

What if instead of looking at this bad month as a horrible tragedy, you look at it differently.
You can look at it as a moment to learn from…
As a challenge…
As a chance to try something new…

It's easy to panic when things go bad, but panic won't do you any good.

Instead, remain calm.

Keep your head on straight and ask yourself on simple question.

"What is in my control that will better this situation?"

Answer that question and then take action.

Alright, I have to admit this writing is highly influenced by reading Ryan Holiday's book The Obstacle is the Way

Sometimes rewriting what you have been learning can be an incredible way to reinforce an idea in your head. I don't publish this to just steal his ideas, but to instead reframe them to the world and give him due credit. Check out the book, it is seriously life changing.
