Customer Success Recruiters: 13 Firms for CSM and Leadership Hires

By , co-founder of Alpha Apex Group, one of the thirteen firms below

Published Updated 15 min read

A customer success hire needs to understand your customers, help them get value from your product and take responsibility for the parts of the relationship you assign to them. For one company, that means guiding new accounts through onboarding. For another, it means managing renewals or leading the whole customer success team.

A recruiter can help you find people with the right experience and assess how well it fits your business. This guide compares 13 customer success recruiters and staffing firms, from specialists hiring customer success managers (CSMs) to executive search firms recruiting customer leaders. It explains the differences in their services and what to ask before starting a search.

Compare customer success recruiters

Start with the responsibility you need to fill. The groups below make the list easier to navigate, but several firms work across more than one level or hiring model.

Each firm has a primary page offering customer success recruitment, a relevant staffing role or customer leadership search.

Melo Associates

Melo Associates website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A customer success team that needs a full search, targeted recruiting help or temporary executive leadership.

Melo's FAQ reports a 96% fill rate, without stating the period it covers, and a network of over 26,000 professionals across revenue and post-sales functions, including customer success. It primarily recruits for early- to mid-stage AI-native, SaaS and technology companies. The firm dates its work with high-growth companies to 2016; founder Swati Garg also co-founded CuSP, a Chicago customer success community. Its recruiting spans individual contributors through executives in CS, onboarding, implementation, account management, support and professional services.

Alongside full-service recruitment, Melo offers application screening, active sourcing, interview process audits and job description audits. Its on-demand resume review excludes sourcing, so it suits a team that already has applicants. Melo's hiring page, read in September 2026, says Executive Search Plus adds three to six months of coaching for the new executive; its CCO Program supplies interim, fractional and advisory customer success executives.

Zelda Recruiting website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
An employer that wants a recruiter focused exclusively on customer success, after confirming current search capacity.

Zelda describes its recruiting focus as exclusively customer success. It says it is building a network of CS professionals who treat the work as a long-term career, whether or not they are actively looking. Its homepage and employer page give little detail about search delivery. Establish the role levels and markets it covers, who would run your assignment and recent comparable work on a first call.

Betts Recruiting

Betts Recruiting website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A company comparing a single CS search with a wider go-to-market hiring program.

Recruiters at Betts have an average tenure of four years or more, according to its homepage; its employer page dates the firm's founding to 2009. It runs contingency searches for sales, marketing and customer success roles. Its Recruitment as a Service page, read in September 2026, describes an annual subscription with one flat fee for unlimited go-to-market hires: you pick a role and make unlimited hires with a dedicated recruiter, for a fee Betts says is equivalent to the cost of one hire.

For a single CSM vacancy, ask for a contingency proposal. If you expect several CS hires, or CS alongside sales and marketing, ask whether one subscription covers every role or each role needs its own, and price it against the same hiring plan. Confirm which roles are covered, the recruiting capacity assigned to you and what happens if your hiring schedule changes.

What would our planned hires cost under each model, and what service commitment does the annual subscription include?

Blueprint website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
Building a customer success team across individual contributor and management roles.

Blueprint's homepage features Jennifer Lovette, identified as Invoca's SVP of Customer Success, describing hires across contributor, manager and director roles in the CS organization. The firm describes its team as former B2B sales leaders with over 30 years of combined experience.

Its CS role list covers entry-level, senior, enterprise and principal CSMs, plus onboarding, support, digital engagement and CS operations. Management coverage extends through director and senior director. That breadth supports separate briefs for onboarding, account ownership and management. Ask Blueprint for a reference from a CS leader whose team structure resembles yours.

Captivate Talent

Captivate Talent website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
High-growth tech companies hiring CSMs or customer leaders into US- or Canada-based roles.

Across SaaS revenue hiring, Captivate says its network includes over 10,000 candidates it has spoken with. It says experienced executive recruiters handle searches from intake through candidate assessment and delivery. Its remit includes CSMs, chief customer officers, VPs of CS and customer experience, and heads and directors of CS at high-growth tech companies. Roles must be based in the US or Canada; the employer can be headquartered elsewhere.

The employer page read in September 2026 schedules a strategy call within 24 hours and a prequalified shortlist in weeks 1–2. Ask what starts that timetable and how it applies to your role.

Its FAQ describes contingency, container, retainer and embedded solutions, including a lighter embedded option. A container search involves an upfront engagement fee, with the remaining fee payable on placement.

The FAQ also says it does not recruit temporary or contract employees; an embedded recruiter provides recruiting capacity for your company. Captivate says its guarantee period depends on the level of the role; request the actual duration, remedy and conditions with the proposal.

Ask first
Which engagement model fits this hire, who will run the search, and what exactly does the placement guarantee cover?

CulverCareers website, captured October 2026.View source (opens in a new tab)

CulverCareers website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A US customer success role with a clear repeat-business responsibility.

CulverCareers' firm-wide average is 15 business days to first referrals, according to its company page read in September 2026. That measures candidate introductions across its business, with no CS-specific average stated. It recruits across the US and lists customer success within sales recruiting, describing post-sale relationships and repeat business.

I would consider it for a commercial account role, then ask how its assessment separates renewal and expansion ability from new-business selling. If your vacancy is mainly technical onboarding or implementation, establish that experience before commissioning a search.

Ask first
What have you placed in post-sale account ownership, and how would you assess a candidate's renewal experience?

Harvey Thomas website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A B2B software company in the UK or EMEA comparing CS recruitment with a wider hiring partnership.

Harvey Thomas says it is retained to help the employer make the best hiring decision, not paid every time someone accepts an offer. Its CS partnership terms, read in September 2026, specify one monthly fee and no placement fees on hires covered by the partnership. Its homepage also offers a focused search when a company needs one critical hire; ask whether that option covers a CS role.

The firm recruits for B2B software companies in the UK and EMEA, covering CSMs, enterprise and senior CSMs, team leads, heads of CS and VPs of CS or customer experience. It says it stays involved as the hire joins. For a wider commercial hiring plan, confirm the included vacancies, available recruiting capacity and how the monthly commitment ends.

Sloane Staffing

Sloane Staffing website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A CS hire whose onboarding, implementation and commercial responsibilities need careful assessment.

Sloane publishes placements of a CSM at Skeepers and heads of customer success at iamGIS and Salesmsg, without giving placement dates. Its homepage identifies the founder as a former Marketo enterprise account executive.

The CS kickoff covers onboarding, implementation, account portfolios, upsells, renewals and industry experience to define the position. Sloane then interviews and prequalifies applicants before presenting resumes. Use the named placements to ask how it tested product understanding and account judgment. Its wider menu includes contract talent and permanent placement; confirm the route for your CS vacancy.

Sphere Digital Recruitment website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
Customer success leadership hiring in media, AdTech, MarTech or SaaS across the UK, US and Europe.

Sphere's homepage reports thousands of placements over two decades across its business, from senior executives to freelancers and emerging leaders. Its go-to-market offer includes customer success leaders for media, AdTech, MarTech, SaaS and PE- and VC-backed scale-ups, with team building across the UK, US and Europe.

Its wider service menu offers permanent hires on contingent, exclusive or retained terms, plus "interim, contract and FTC talent", embedded recruiters and multi-hire projects. These are firm-wide services; establish the model and regional team for your CS assignment. An embedded arrangement is worth comparing when you need help running a hiring program as well as finding an individual leader.

Potential fit
An employer seeking customer success recruiting and staffing with support for bringing new hires into the team.

Alpha Apex Group's customer success service covers talent acquisition, staffing strategies and onboarding support.

If the hire will inherit a handoff from sales or an existing book of accounts, clarify what that onboarding support includes. Request a proposal specifying role level, location, hiring model and responsibilities after acceptance.

Ask first
For this CS role, what sourcing, assessment and onboarding work would you deliver, and what would remain with our team?

Potential fit
A customer success manager role that overlaps with a broader customer experience team.

Mondo explicitly lists customer success manager among the roles on its customer experience staffing page, alongside CX specialists, analysts, managers and directors. The page emphasizes journey mapping, customer feedback analysis and net promoter score insights.

Consider it when account relationships connect with a wider CX program. For a subscription business, have the proposal specify adoption, renewal or expansion responsibilities and the hiring terms.

Comparing contract, contract-to-hire and direct-hire options for the same CS requirement.

NextPath's customer success practice offers contract, contract-to-hire and direct hire, and describes nationwide reach; its listed offices are in Tampa and Orlando. The role list covers CSMs and renewal managers, onboarding and implementation specialists, technical account managers, customer operations and leadership through chief customer officer.

The practice covers SaaS, subscription and other recurring-revenue businesses. Its screening may include adoption, renewals, retention, expansion and customer-focused metrics. Customer leadership executive search

For a VP or chief customer officer, assess how the firm tests leadership of the function as well as customer-facing experience.

SPMB website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
A VP of customer success or chief customer executive responsible for the wider post-sale organization.

SPMB cites 45 years of executive search experience across industries and names Mike Dempsey as head of its Customer Success Practice. That history is firm-wide. The dedicated CS and post-sales practice discusses VP customer success roles and searches for chief customer officers, chief customer success officers and chief customer experience officers.

The firm says it examines the customer base, product and service complexity, organizational structure and revenue model to define the leadership fit. That is useful territory for a brief in which the executive must decide how onboarding, support, renewals and expansion work together. Ask the search team how it would distinguish experience running a mature CS function from experience building one.

Ask first
Which comparable leaders have you recruited, and how would you test their ability to design and lead our post-sale organization?

How I would choose a customer success recruiter

I would start with the work the person needs to own. Write down where customers need help, who makes renewal decisions and what authority the new hire will have. Then ask the recruiter to explain the candidate profile that follows from that brief.

  1. Agree on the outcome and the level of hire

I would write the job post so it stays useful after the hire. In a 2023 post on preparing for growth, I wrote that it should be "a document you can refer back to evaluate if this hire did a good job or not," with 90-day expectations and results. For this search, agree on those expectations before the recruiter starts approaching candidates.

Describe what should improve after the person joins. If onboarding is the priority, specify which steps they own and how you will judge whether customers are getting started successfully. If the job carries renewals, define the commercial responsibility and how it is shared with sales. For a leader, clarify whether they will improve an established system or design the team and operating model.

A hypothetical example: an enterprise software company needs someone to untangle delayed implementations and coordinate technical stakeholders. That brief calls for different evidence from a CSM role focused on renewing a large portfolio of smaller accounts. Give the recruiter that distinction before asking for candidates.

  2. Ask how they assess the work

Request an anonymized assessment from a comparable search. It should show what the candidate personally owned, the customers they served and how the recruiter checked their contribution. A retention figure on a resume needs context: the starting position, the period measured and the responsibilities shared with other teams.

Use a short work discussion tied to your role, such as how the candidate would investigate an account at risk or handle an onboarding delay. Ask the recruiter how it would evaluate the answer. You should be able to see the link between the interview and the work you need done.

  3. Check the relevant network and working relationship

Ask about recent searches at your level, in your market and with a similar customer base. The recruiter can discuss examples without disclosing confidential candidates. Ask what kind of person they would hire for your team and why. Then find out who will source and assess applicants, how progress will be reported and what feedback your hiring managers must provide.

Also explain how the team works. A person joining a mature CS operation needs different support from someone expected to establish the process. The recruiter should understand the reporting line, the resources available and the decisions the hire can make.

  4. Define support after acceptance

Ask who remains involved between acceptance and the start date, and during onboarding. Agree on check-ins with the manager and new hire, the issues the recruiter can help resolve and the point at which its work ends. Keep this separate from a replacement guarantee: practical support and a contractual remedy serve different purposes.

Fees and terms to compare

Ask each firm to quote against the same role and hiring plan. A percentage fee, annual subscription and monthly partnership cannot be compared from the headline alone. The proposal needs to show the total commitment and what it includes.

Captivate's FAQ provides one provider's description of typical market fees: 15–18% of first-year on-target earnings for individual contributor roles including CSMs, and 20–25% for directors and VPs. These are its market benchmarks as checked in September 2026, not Captivate's quoted rates or a fee range verified across the firms here. Use them to frame a pricing conversation, then request the firm's actual proposal.

Betts' annual flat-fee subscription and Harvey Thomas' monthly partnership for UK and EMEA hiring offer different ways to fund a hiring program. Confirm the included roles, term, capacity and cancellation conditions. For contract or contract-to-hire work, ask about the bill rate, minimum commitment and any conversion fee.

  • Fee basis: What is the total fee, and does a percentage apply to base salary, on-target earnings or another compensation figure?
  • Payment and cancellation: When are payments due, and what happens if we pause or cancel the search?
  • Scope and delivery: Which roles and recruiting services are included, and who will deliver them?
  • Timing: When should we expect the first qualified shortlist, what could delay it, and how will we review progress?
  • Remedy: What replacement or refund remedy applies, for how long and under which conditions?
  • Restrictions: What exclusivity, candidate ownership and off-limits restrictions apply?
  • Onboarding: What support continues after acceptance, and what will our team need to provide?

Should you hire a CS employee or outsource the work?

If you want the person to sit inside your team and report to your manager, brief a recruiter or staffing firm. If you want an external provider to deliver a defined part of the customer operation, evaluate that as a service purchase, with its own responsibilities and measures.

SupportNinja's outsourcing services (opens in a new tab) include customer onboarding, support and renewals. That makes it relevant to the second decision. Before seeking proposals, decide who will manage the work, own customer decisions and remain accountable when an account needs attention.

For a recruiting shortlist, send the same brief to the firms whose role coverage and hiring model fit. I would choose the partner that can explain how it will find and assess the person you need, then put that commitment in writing.
