Who runs this site

jake-jorgovan.com is Jake Jorgovan’s personal site. It is operated by Waving Banner LLC, doing business as Jake-Jorgovan.com (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

For anything about your information, including the requests described below, email jake@jake-jorgovan.com.

What we collect

When you get in touch

The Work with Jake form asks for your name, your email address, an optional phone number and your message. It also contains a hidden field that people never see; it exists to catch automated spam. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.

When you read the site

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which pages are read and how people arrive. It records the pages you visit, the site that referred you, your approximate location (at city level, not your exact address), your device and browser, how far you scroll, and which links you click, including email and phone links.

We may also use advertising measurement tags from LinkedIn and Meta, which tell those platforms when someone who saw our posts or ads visits the site.

Automatically, to run the site

Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs, including IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working.

We don’t ask for, and don’t want, sensitive information such as health, financial account or government ID details. Please don’t include it in a message.

How we use it

  • To reply to your inquiry, point you to the right person or company, and, if we end up working together, to manage that work.
  • To understand which articles and episodes are useful, and to improve the site.
  • To keep the site secure and stop spam and misuse.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as keeping ordinary business records.

We use your information only for these purposes, or for another purpose we tell you about and, where the law requires it, ask your consent for first.

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t rent or trade your contact details. Using the form doesn’t add you to a mailing list: we only email you about your inquiry unless you ask to hear from us about something else.

Who else handles it

These services process information for us, under their own privacy policies:

VercelHosts the site and keeps its technical logs.
GoogleAnalytics and Tag Manager for site measurement, and Google Workspace for email. Messages sent through the form are delivered to us by email through our email service provider.
LinkedIn and MetaAdvertising measurement, where we use their tags.
SoundCloud and YouTubePodcast audio and videos, loaded only when you press play.

If your inquiry is best handled by one of the companies Jake is involved with (see the terms of use), we may pass your message to them so they can reply; we’ll tell you when we do. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a change in who runs the site.

Some of these providers store information in the United States and other countries. If you are in Canada, your information may be processed outside Canada, where the local authorities may be able to access it under their laws.

Cookies and tracking

You don’t need cookies to read anything on this site. Google Analytics uses cookies to recognise repeat visits. LinkedIn’s and Meta’s tags, where used, set cookies that let those companies connect your visit here with your activity on their platforms and on other sites, over time, to measure and target advertising.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on (opens in a new tab), and manage ad preferences in your LinkedIn (opens in a new tab) and Meta (opens in a new tab) settings.

Browsers’ Do Not Track signals aren’t applied consistently across the web, so this site doesn’t change what it does when it receives one. The choices above work regardless.

How long we keep it

Inquiries are kept while we are in touch and for up to three years after our last contact, as ordinary business records, then deleted, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or the law requires us to keep them longer. Google Analytics keeps event data for no longer than 14 months. Hosting logs are kept for a short period set by our provider.

Keeping it safe

The site is served only over encrypted connections, and access to inquiries is limited to the people who need it. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, how we use it and who we have shared it with; ask us to correct it; ask us to delete it; or withdraw your consent to a use you agreed to. Email jake@jake-jorgovan.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will reply within 30 days.

Residents of California and some other US states have rights under their state’s privacy laws, and we will honour them where those laws apply to us. If you are in Canada and aren’t satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (opens in a new tab).

Other sites

Articles link to many other companies, including firms in our shortlists. Once you leave this site, their privacy policies apply, not this one.

Children

The site is written for business readers and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, how we use it or who handles it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll make it clear on the site before it takes effect.
