Aviation Recruiters: 14 Firms for Crew, Engineers and Leaders

By , co-founder of Alpha Apex Group, one of the fourteen firms below

Published Updated 14 min read

Hiring a chief pilot, a maintenance engineer or an airline CEO starts with the same concern: finding someone who can do the job in your operation. The recruiter needs to understand the role, the experience it calls for and when you need the person ready to work.

This guide compares 14 aviation recruiters for airlines, private operators, airports and maintenance, repair and overhaul businesses, known as MROs. It covers executive search, permanent recruitment and contract crew, with questions to help you choose a firm for your particular hire.

Compare aviation recruiters

Use the hiring scope to find relevant firms, then check the engagement model. Several firms work across leadership, technical and crew roles, so the same provider may suit more than one requirement.

Match the firm type to the seat. For a leadership or regulated management appointment, brief an executive search firm, retained or on a success fee. For permanent pilots, engineers and operational staff, a specialist aviation recruiter working on direct hire fits. For seasonal or project crew, a contract or leasing provider supplies the people and, by its own description, handles pay and administration; agree who employs them.

The firms are listed alphabetically. They come from a limited web search for aviation recruiters, and each has a current official page describing aviation recruitment, search or crew leasing. The list is not a ranking or a complete market survey; additional global search firms and the aviation divisions of large staffing groups were not reviewed. Provider service claims and figures are the firms' own.

Contract and permanent recruitment, crew contracting and international payroll

AeroProfessional says it has recruited flight deck, cabin crew, ground staff and engineers for Hi Fly since 2008, and its homepage reported more than 500 flight crew contractors currently under management when read in September 2026. Its Volotea campaign filled the required seasonal A320 captain headcount before the season began. Its pilot recruitment page also describes coordinating simulator and licensing logistics for ASL's B747 pilot hiring at its Belgian base during the Covid-19 and Brexit transition period.

The firm covers permanent recruitment and crew contracting, with a CEO search for TUS Airways and a COO search for SkyUp Airlines among its executive examples. Its executive service narrows a shortlist of five to three candidates presented with reports and completed background checks.

Services
Aviation recruitment and executive search

Alpha Apex Group's aviation service covers both flight crew placement for airlines and private operators and executive recruitment. It also names maintenance, engineering and airport operations.

The page describes competency-based interviews, skills assessments and reference checks. If you need contract or leased crew, ask whether it offers that service. The aviation page names no aviation clients or completed placements and publishes no figures, so ask for a comparable aviation assignment.

Ask first
Which checks would you use to verify the credentials and operating experience required for our role?

Retained executive search, direct-hire placements and recruitment process outsourcing

Aviation Search Group publishes client testimonials from INAir Aviation Services, Heritage Aviation, ProJet Aviation and Reach Air Medical Services. Founded by aviation professionals in late 1999, it describes its direct-hire work as exclusively aviation.

Its retained search covers C-suite and senior leadership roles. Recruitment process outsourcing can work alongside an internal talent team and combine placements with retained searches, giving employers a way to discuss ongoing recruiting capacity as well as individual vacancies.

Ask first
Would you recommend an individual search or an outsourced recruiting program for our hiring plan, and how would the responsibilities and fees differ?

Eagle Headhunters

Back to the comparison
Potential fit
Private aviation businesses hiring in brokerage, commercial operations or management.
Hiring scope
Charter brokers, sales and acquisitions, aircraft handling, engineering, design and management
Services
Private aviation headhunting

Eagle Headhunters describes a dedicated private aviation desk covering positions at different levels of seniority. The page announcing the desk carries a 2017 publication date, last modified in February 2018. Its named categories include charter brokers and sales and acquisitions, which make it particularly relevant to buyers whose vacancy sits on the commercial side of private aviation.

Use those categories to frame the first conversation. A charter brokerage hire and an engineering appointment need different evidence of recruiting experience, even when the same desk offers both.

Potential fit
Operators considering pilot leasing or contract recruitment alongside senior hiring.

Services
Contract recruitment, pilot leasing and executive search

Pilot leasing for fleet expansion, seasonal changes and fluctuating demand is part of GOOSE's contract service. Airline employers hiring operational and technical staff.
Hiring scope
Dispatchers, maintenance controllers, technicians, senior engineers, pilots and cabin crew
Services
Local contingent and flat-fee recruiting

Flight dispatcher, aircraft maintenance controller and aviation planner are among the airline roles Intrinsic Workforce Recruiters names. That role list makes it a candidate to investigate for operational vacancies as well as engineering hires.

The firm says it recruits active and passive candidates without online advertising. For a confidential replacement, ask how it will describe the opportunity and protect the employer's identity during outreach. Keller Executive Search website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
Airline and business aviation employers evaluating leadership search with advertised commercial terms.
Hiring scope
Senior aviation leadership, chief pilots and specialist flight crew contractors
Services
Executive search and specialist recruitment

A regional airline CEO, an aircraft services provider's MRO vice president and an airport authority's head of safety and regulatory compliance appear among Keller's reported aviation placements. The examples are anonymous. Its vetting covers candidates' track records with the FAA and EASA, safety management experience and relevant licenses, type ratings or engineering qualifications. It also sources flight crew contractors.

Keller's page, read in September 2026, advertised an 18% client success fee, no upfront costs, replacement coverage for up to 365 days and first candidates in 2 to 3 weeks. The stated remedy is a replacement at no charge if the candidate cannot fulfill the job duties, subject to the coverage period. Confirm the fee's compensation basis, the replacement conditions and which advertised terms apply to your aviation hire.

Red Diamond's aviation offering covers management and executives, pilots, and commercial operations across aerospace and airlines, and its page names Emma Robinson as managing director. Its testimonials carry the commenter's affiliation or job title; one, labeled Gardner Aerospace, thanks Emma for meeting 'Gardner recruitment requirements' without naming the role, and others carry affiliations including Tensator Group, Baskin Robbins, Sytner Jaguar Land Rover and Landa Global Properties.

For a pilot vacancy, ask for comparable pilot placements and make fleet and operating experience central to the conversation.

Potential fit
Operators seeking crew or technical personnel with administration and pay support.
Hiring scope
Flight crew, cabin crew, maintenance, engineering and technical ground staff
Services
Personnel and crew leasing

More than 100 aviation companies have worked with Rishworth on roles from the hangar to the boardroom, according to its homepage. Its leasing page describes 40 years of aviation leasing experience across more than 40 countries and identifies it as part of Empresaria Group.

The client selects personnel, then Rishworth engages and assigns them, handling recruitment, logistics, administration, pay, HR and contractual responsibilities. The page also says personnel work directly for the client. That wording leaves the legal employer in your jurisdiction unresolved; agree the employing entity and responsibilities in the proposal.

Services
Executive search, leadership development and consulting

Airlines, airports, MROs and aviation-related services are the clients Spencer Stuart's aviation practice names; its page lists Bailey Hallingby, Marco Giusti, Matthew D. Belda and Thomas Rajan on the team. The practice combines executive search with leadership development, team effectiveness and strategic or cultural change.

It also advises on the people side of mergers and integrations. If a vacancy forms part of an acquisition or reorganization, discuss whether you need a search alone or additional work with the existing team.

Stone Executive

Stone Executive website, captured October 2026.

Potential fit
UK aviation employers hiring senior leaders or nominated postholders.
Hiring scope
Executives, accountable managers, chief pilots, safety leaders and MRO directors
Services
Retained, exclusive executive search

Across its sector practices, Stone Executive says it has completed more than 1,000 senior appointments, a firm-wide count. Its aviation service names regulated management appointments alongside commercial and board roles. One consultant leads the retained, exclusive search, supported by in-house research; the stated shortlist contains four to six candidates with written profiles and assessments. It says it tests candidates' operational depth in the relevant aircraft type or approval scope.

Its published standard timetable in September 2026 was 8 to 12 weeks from briefing to offer acceptance. Stone says senior notice periods commonly add 3 to 6 months, with regulator acceptance running alongside the appointment process where relevant. Use these as the firm's planning assumptions for your own start-date discussion.

Ask first
How would you plan our search, notice period and any regulator review around the date we need the person in post?

Give recruiters a brief they can work from

I'd start by writing down what the new person must take responsibility for. A title alone leaves too much room for different interpretations. Ask your operational and technical leads to help define the experience required, then use the same brief to compare recruiters.

Aviation hiring brief

Complete this before the first call

Employer and operation
Airline, charter operator, flight department, airport, MRO or supplier; operating locations and fleet or facilities
Role and responsibility
Reporting line, team, decisions the person will own and the outcomes you need
Required experience
Relevant licenses, ratings, aircraft or systems experience, and qualifications confirmed by your technical lead
Engagement
Permanent appointment or defined contract requirement; expected headcount and duration
Availability
Desired start date, relocation, roster or travel requirements, and time needed for training and checks
Approval and continuity
Regulatory steps your compliance lead identifies and the cover needed while the appointment is completed
Offer
Compensation, benefits and any flexibility you can offer candidates

For an aircraft design or manufacturing engineering vacancy, the aerospace engineering recruiters guide provides a more focused comparison.

Plan management-change notifications

For listed management posts, US Part 121 and Part 135 certificate holders must notify the responsible FAA Flight Standards office within 10 days of a personnel change or vacancy under §119.65 (opens in a new tab) and §119.69 (opens in a new tab). The listed posts depend on the operation.

UK Air Operator Certificate holders must notify nominated postholder changes to the CAA (opens in a new tab) and attach Form 4. The SRG2815A form (opens in a new tab) asks for the nominee's employment or contracted status. The same FAA sections require Part 121 certificate holders to have qualified people serving full-time in the listed or equivalent posts, and Part 135 holders (other than single-pilot operators) to have qualified people serving in them. Form 4 carries a signature block for the CAA staff member accepting the nomination. These are notification and acceptance steps, not a deadline to fill the seat; have your compliance lead confirm interim cover and the acceptance steps for your role before agreeing the operational start date.

Check the team and its recent work

Ask to meet the person who will run the search and discuss a comparable completed assignment. Establish the employer type, role, location and obstacles involved. For a confidential search, an anonymized example can begin that conversation; agree how references will be supplied before appointment.

Then ask how the recruiter will assess candidates against your brief. Have your technical lead distinguish what the recruiter checks from what your organization must validate before the person starts.

Agree how the relationship will work:

  • The reporting schedule and escalation contact during the search.
  • Which companies the recruiter cannot approach.
  • Follow-up after the hire starts and help with early concerns.

Compare fees, guarantees and start dates

Keller's advertised success fee and Stone's retained fee structure illustrate different ways to buy a search. Stone says its fee is a percentage of the appointed leader's first-year package, agreed at briefing and invoiced in stages. The percentage is not published on the aviation page read. Keller's advertised terms are set out in its profile above; confirm them for your assignment.

Request a written proposal that lets you compare the total commitment:

  • Fee basis: Which compensation elements determine the recruitment fee, and what expenses are additional?
  • Payment and cancellation: When are payments due, and what happens if the search is canceled or the role changes?
  • Replacement: Does replacement coverage apply to this hire? For how long, under what conditions, and is the remedy a replacement, credit or refund?
  • Milestones: Which dates cover first candidates, a full shortlist, offer acceptance and an operational start?
  • Contract crew: What does the quoted rate include, and who handles payroll, travel, insurance and administration?
  • Changes and exit: What are the terms for extending, ending or converting a contract assignment to permanent employment?

Compare the same milestone across proposals. Keller's advertised first-candidate timetable and Stone's offer-acceptance timetable describe different stages. Your hiring plan also needs to allow for the selected person's notice period, onboarding and any role-specific training or approval work.

How this list was made

The firms are listed alphabetically. They come from a limited web search for aviation recruiters, and each has a current official page describing aviation recruitment, search or crew leasing. The list is not a ranking or a complete market survey; additional global search firms and the aviation divisions of large staffing groups were not reviewed. Provider service claims and figures are the firms' own.
