7 Denver Recruiters, Headhunters and Executive Search Firms

By

Published Updated 9 min read

Hiring a leader for a Denver business means deciding both what the person needs to deliver and where to find them. You may want someone who already knows the local market, or you may need a wider search to find the right experience and bring it to Colorado. A recruiter should be able to explain how they will approach that choice.

This guide compares seven recruiters and executive search firms with a Denver-area base or office. It covers board and executive search, recruiters organized by industry or function, and specialists in finance, toxicology and product safety. After the profiles, it sets out the brief to write before you call a firm and what to settle on fees and terms.

Which Denver recruiters fit your hire?

Decide which engagement you are buying as well as which firm. For a senior or confidential appointment, buy executive search. For other permanent roles, direct hire recruits someone into permanent employment, and it can also cover executive roles. Contract and temporary staffing is a separate purchase with its own terms. With each firm, confirm which of these it would run for your role, then agree the payment terms for that engagement.

Seven firms with a Denver-area presence, based on their own pages checked September 28 and October 1, 2026. Hiring fit is editorial guidance.

Retained executive search for VC- and PE-backed growth companies

Formerly Talent Solvers, 10 Point Partners describes itself as an executive retained recruitment firm for VC- and PE-backed growth companies. Its site data names Denver as its base, and its Terms of Engagement page lists a Denver street address; the reviewed pages name no Denver staff. Its About page lists senior roles in revenue, marketing, finance, operations, product and engineering, as well as the entire C-suite and board members.

The same terms page says the scope, fees, timelines and guarantees of each engagement are set out in a separate written agreement signed with the client.

McAleer Gray describes itself as a Denver-based national boutique with offices in Denver, New York and South Florida. It recruits board directors, C-level executives and their direct reports, and says senior partners and C-suite veterans personally conduct its engagements. A separate MG2 service handles mid-management recruiting, from mid-level roles to managers and directors.

Its blog records a Denver engagement. In June 2021 the firm announced that ModivCare had retained it to find a chief HR officer, for a role based in the Denver metropolitan area.

Sheer Velocity describes itself as a boutique retained executive search firm headquartered in Denver. Its stated areas of expertise include private equity, venture capital, advanced technology, life sciences, healthcare and energy.

Its published sample workflow, which the firm says varies by client, opens in weeks 1–2 with a kick-off on the job description and first-year goals and its Corporate Cultural Alignment Survey.

In the sample schedule, the client receives a candidate shortlist in weeks 3–4. Weeks 5–8 include assessment of preferred candidates and a verbal offer. Written-offer preparation and any negotiation fall in weeks 9–10, followed by pre-boarding during the candidate's notice period in weeks 10–12.

Use the weeks to plan when your interviewers and decision-makers need to be available. The start date follows the candidate's notice period.

Ask first
How does the cultural alignment survey shape who reaches the shortlist, and how would our brief change the sample schedule?

Stanton Chase's Denver office offers retained executive search, leadership assessment, succession planning and board services. Its office page describes national and international search reach through the firm's network of more than 70 offices in 45 countries.

The Denver page says the office leads Stanton Chase's global mining and minerals processing subsector and its North American technology sector. It also lists experience in aerospace and defense, healthcare and life sciences, financial services and energy, and work with private equity portfolio companies, family-owned businesses and large enterprises.

Bradsby has a Denver office and offers executive search and direct-hire recruiting. Its practices include accounting and finance, construction, energy, life sciences, supply chain and technology, and its team page names a practice leader for accounting and finance in Denver. The firm says its recruiting model helps maintain continuity with a client's business across searches. Start with the practice that matches your role, then confirm it recruits at that level.

Ask first
If the hire is in finance, would your Denver accounting and finance practice leader run the search, and how many other searches would that person be carrying?

Specialist recruiting across executive and professional roles

High Country is based in Denver and works across the country. It describes itself as a high-quality, low-volume search firm serving finance, accounting, private equity, software, technology, oil and gas and other fields.

Its finance and accounting page lists placements from CFO and VP Finance through controller, FP&A manager, financial analyst and staff accountant. A separate staffing practice describes contract and direct-hire placement of operational accounting, administrative, HR and payroll staff.

That range suits an employer hiring a finance leader and the team below them. If the CFO is the only hire, compare High Country with the firms in the guide to CFO executive search firms.

Ask first
Who would lead a CFO search, and how would the process differ from recruiting for the accounting team?

Professional recruiting and executive search

The Leyden Group is a Colorado-based professional recruiting and executive search firm with its headquarters in Littleton. Its team page says founder Terry Leyden personally manages the toxicology and product safety practice, which makes it a focused option for a scientific hire in those disciplines. Its toxicology page, dated January 11, 2024, reports more than 600 filled search assignments in toxicology and product safety and lists clients in pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, chemicals, medical devices and consulting.

Set out the technical remit before the first call: the products involved, the scientific judgments the hire must make, and whether you need a specialist or a leader responsible for a team. Those are different briefs even when they share a discipline.

Should you hire locally in Denver or recruit for relocation?

Decide before the first call, because the answer changes which companies a firm targets, how far its outreach reaches and how long the search runs. Limit the search to candidates already near Denver if relocation is not feasible within your budget or hiring timetable. Opening the role to relocation widens the pool when the experience you need is scarce, and means agreeing relocation support and allowing time for a move.

The brief to give every firm

I would define what success looks like in the role before asking a recruiter to find candidates. Put these answers on one page and give the same brief to every firm:

  • Outcomes: what the person must deliver in the first 90 days and the first year.
  • Reporting line: who they report to, and who reports to them.
  • Decisions owned: the budgets, hires and commitments that are theirs to make.
  • Candidate location: within commuting distance of Denver only, or open to relocation.
  • On-site needs: how many days a week the role needs in person, and where.
  • Pay and relocation: the salary range, benefits and any relocation support. Ask each firm how that package compares with market benchmarks for comparable roles and the compensation expectations of the candidates you want to attract.
  • Colorado posting rules: Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act sets job-posting disclosure requirements covering compensation, benefits and how and when to apply, which the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment explains (opens in a new tab). Agree with your recruiter and counsel how they apply to this search, including a confidential one.
  • Updates: how often the firm reports on outreach, candidate feedback and any change to the brief.

Ask each firm how those answers change its target companies, outreach and timetable. For a fuller method of comparing search partners, see how to choose an executive search firm.

How do Denver recruiters charge?

Each firm sets its fee in its own proposal, and the price depends on the service. None of the seven publishes a fee level on the pages read, so this guide quotes no Denver rate. McAleer Gray describes its fee as based largely on performance. 10 Point Partners, Sheer Velocity and Stanton Chase describe retained search; 10 Point Partners sets fees in a separate signed agreement, and Sheer Velocity says its fee structure has no hidden expenses. For direct hire through Bradsby or High Country, ask how the fee is calculated and when it is due. For general guidance on fee structures, see what executive search firms charge.

Request written proposals against the same brief. Have each firm separate the fee basis (base salary, total compensation or a fixed amount), the payment schedule and any expenses, and say what happens if the scope changes or you stop the search. The agreement should also answer these questions:

  • Who will run the search day to day, and who will conduct the research, candidate interviews and reference checks?
  • Which comparable searches has that person led, and can we speak with a client from one of them?
  • Is the assignment exclusive, and which employers are off-limits for recruiting because of the firm's other client relationships?
  • What milestones will we agree on for the shortlist, interviews and offer?
  • If the hire leaves, what replacement or refund terms apply, for how long and under which conditions?

Choose the firm whose proposed team and method fit your brief, with terms you understand before the search begins.

How this list was made

This shortlist covers firms whose own sites identify a Denver-area office or base and relevant recruiting services, checked September 28 and October 1, 2026. A city landing page or mailing address alone is insufficient; 10 Point Partners qualifies on a Denver address plus its own statement of a Denver base, with no Denver staff named. Firms appear alphabetically within groups; this is not a ranking. A local base does not limit searches to Colorado.
