11 Media Executive Search Firms and Recruiters Compared

Published Updated 13 min read
Media companies hire for roles that few other industries have: a general manager for a TV station, a sales leader who knows how airtime and digital inventory are sold, a programmatic team for a media agency, a crew for a live broadcast. A recruiter that works in media should know where the people for these jobs are, and be able to show you hires like yours.
This guide compares 11 media executive search firms, headhunters, recruiters and staffing firms. It groups them by the hire they suit, shows the proof each publishes and its scope, and ends with what to settle before you sign.
DisclosureJake Jorgovan co-founded Alpha Apex Group, one of the eleven firms in this list.
Compare media search firms by the hire you need
Each firm's own pages show a recruiting service dedicated to media, broadcasting or media agencies and publish some proof of the firm's work. They fall into four groups: media specialists that fill leadership and sales roles, executive search firms with a media practice, recruiters for media agency and ad tech teams, and firms that staff production crews and technical teams. Within each group they are listed A to Z, with no ranking.
Three of the names are easy to confuse. Media Staffing Network recruits for US radio, TV and cable companies, Media Staffing builds digital advertising teams, and Media Staffing Inc. recruits for media agencies and ad tech in Canada. They are separate firms.
The evidence column matters most. A named media client or a search for a role like yours is direct evidence. A firm-wide total describes the whole business, so the table says which kind each firm publishes.

Filcro Media Staffing

- Potential fit
- A retained search for a media executive, from a station general manager to a network CEO
- Where it works
- the US, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Asia (its site)
- Evidence
- client reviews (opens in a new tab)
- Published pricing
- a retained fee based on the hire's first-year pay, billed in three equal parts 30 days apart
Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank, writes that his company "engaged Filcro Media Staffing's president, Tony Filson to recruit our current Executive Vice President of Global Business Development & Marketing." Steven Goldstein, whose listed titles include senior vice president at Viacom and BET Networks, says Filson recruited him to Viacom and later helped him make more than 30 hires. A Discovery Communications vice president describes "several job searches" with Filson at Discovery and CBS. A station general manager describes a news director search that went from more than 150 applications to five semi-finalists, three finalists and the hire. The reviews page shows no dates.
Filcro has recruited for media since 1985, from the C-suite to manager level, across sales, technology and engineering, and production and creative roles. Its terms page (opens in a new tab), read in October 2026, is the most complete on this list. It bases the retained fee on first-year pay and bills it in three equal parts 30 days apart, with client-approved candidate travel charged as an expense. If a senior executive it identified leaves within the first year "due to a lack of performance", Filcro will find a similarly paid replacement without further professional fees. It does not state the fee percentage. A CEO search for a music TV network (opens in a new tab) narrowed 20 screened candidates to four before the board chose one.

Before you call a firm: write down the job
Several firms on this list recruit sales leaders: Filcro has a media sales group, and Media Staffing Network's clients describe searches for a general sales manager and a director of sales. A sales leader inherits whatever process you already have, so it pays to know what that process is before you hire.
I learned that the hard way. In a 2019 episode of my podcast I described the first time I handed off sales at Lead Cookie: I had what I thought was a process, and the new hire made sales he should have turned away. As I put it then, "it was me trying to hand things off way too early." The second hand-off worked because I could give my new salesperson the whole process.
A recruiter can find a strong candidate, but you still need to say what the job is. Before the first call, decide four things:
- How you sell today. The pipeline, pricing and deal approvals the new leader will inherit, written down so they can improve a process that already works.
- What the role owns. Which revenue, stations, platforms or teams the person will run, and which decisions are theirs.
- Who they report to. A sales leader who reports to the CEO and one who reports to a regional manager are different hires, and candidates will ask.
- What success looks like after the first year. Revenue, audience or team results you can measure, written down before you see a shortlist.
What to settle before you sign
Send each firm the same written brief
The role, the reporting line and the first-year results go to every firm you talk to. Proposals written against one brief are easy to compare.
Check that the proof matches your hire
A broadcast sales search, a network CEO appointment and a programmatic team are different work. A firm-wide placement count shows none of them, so ask for recent media searches close to yours and for two clients you can call.
Put the commercial terms on paper
Of the 11 firms, only Filcro publishes a fee structure on the pages read in October 2026, and none publishes a fee percentage there. From every firm, get the fee basis, the payment dates, the stage a quoted timeline ends at (a shortlist, an accepted offer or a start date) and what happens if the hire leaves in the first year.
Questions for the first call with each firm:
- Which media searches for a role like this have you finished recently, and which two clients can I call about them?
- Who works on my search each week, and how many other searches do they run?
- How often will you update us, and what will each update include?
- Which media companies are off limits to you because they are clients?
- How is your fee calculated, and when is each payment due?
- When your timeline says a role is filled, which stage do you mean?
- If the hire leaves within a year, what do you do and what does it cost me?

How this list was made
Each firm's own homepage, service, client, testimonial and terms or FAQ pages were read on October 6, 2026. This is a selected comparison, not a directory: each firm listed shows a dedicated media, broadcast or media-agency recruiting service and publishes some evidence of its work, labeled media-specific or firm-wide. Job boards and directories are not listed. Figures and client names are the firms' own claims.
