14 Financial Services Executive Recruiters Compared

Published Updated 12 min read
A senior financial services hire starts with a specific business need: a bank's next CEO, a payments company's revenue leader or an asset manager's head of operations. Choosing a search partner means checking whether its work covers that business and that level of responsibility.
This guide compares 14 firms by the sectors they serve, the evidence they publish and the terms you can establish before signing. Inclusion requires a firm's own page to describe financial services or banking search or recruitment at the level listed here. The three groups show primary fit, with overlapping capabilities. This is a selected list, with no claim to represent the whole market or rank performance.

Talvero, formerly Impact Payments Recruiting, says in its company history (opens in a new tab) that it assumed the full recruiting function for TSYS Acquiring when it began as CSH Consulting in 2000. This describes a recruiting engagement, without identifying an executive placement. It also reports 4,000+ placements with 1,000+ payments companies across North America over two decades, a cumulative total across levels.
The fintech page lists roles including chief revenue officer, VP of product and VP of risk, alongside individual contributors. Its October 2026 statements describe typical candidate delivery in three to five days and, separately, resume submission within 48 hours of starting a search. Neither is a completed-hire timeline. - Potential fit
- Retained C-suite, board and senior functional searches in UK financial services
Retained search across UK banking, asset management, insurance, fintech and other financial sub-sectors is Stone Executive's financial services offer. Its published process sets out a typical long list of 100 to 300 named individuals and a shortlist of four to six candidates. No named financial services placement or completed-search count appears on the page read.
An FAQ on the page, read in October 2026, describes retained financial services search fees as typically a percentage of the appointed candidate's first-year compensation, paid at engagement, shortlist and appointment; it gives no percentage and says fees vary by seniority, sub-sector and brief complexity and are confirmed in writing at engagement. The FAQ's typical four-to-eight-week estimate runs from briefing to offer, with notice and regulatory approval time additional. CEO, chair and chief risk officer searches often take longer. Stone raises regulatory pre-approval for UK senior roles: ask how that affects the proposed start date and who handles each dependency.
The Horizon Group
Back to the comparisonThe Horizon Group website, captured October 2026.
- Potential fit
- Capital markets, investment banking and asset management hiring in New York
The Horizon Group describes four search and recruitment units: Capital Markets, Corporate and Investment Banking, Asset Management, and Investment Banking Operations. What should you settle before signing?
Define the role before judging the person. I made that point in a September 2020 Working Without Pants episode on hiring, after making the mistake myself: “If you have a great person that doesn't fit within your organization, you're just setting yourself up for a disaster.”
I'd apply that advice to the search brief. The firm needs to know the outcomes the leader must deliver, the decisions they will own and the people they must work with. Ask how it would assess candidates against those requirements. A recognizable employer on a resume cannot answer that question for you.
Use these five questions to compare proposals:
- Specialization: Which parts of your published practice cover our sub-sector, geography and seniority, and who has done that work?
- Track record: Can you explain a relevant search, the role filled and the outcome, and distinguish that evidence from firm-wide or mixed-level totals?
- Network: Which institutions would you approach, which are restricted by existing client commitments, and how will you protect confidentiality?
- Customization and terms: Who runs the search, how will you assess our required outcomes, is the engagement retained or contingent, and what are the fee base, payment triggers and replacement terms?
- Compliance and timing: Who handles references and background checks, and what must happen between offer and start? For UK senior appointments, how will you plan for the regulatory approval time Stone describes?
For a narrower hire
For a finance-function leader, use the CFO executive search comparison. If the mandate sits within a specific financial business, compare the relevant investment banking recruiters, wealth management recruiters or insurance executive search firms.
For investment-side hiring, the investment management headhunters and hedge fund recruiters comparisons address those narrower choices.
